Hawks Drop Two to Buffalo State
BUFFALO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Buffalo State, this afternoon. The Hawks lost the first game 3-1, before falling 6-1 to the Bengals in game two.
Freshman pitcher Aimee Fisher (Hamburg, NY) held the Hawks scoreless through the first five innings to help Buffalo State to the 3-1 victory in the first game. Senior first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) scored the only run for the Hawks on a Bengal error in the seventh and led the team offensively with two doubles. Sophomore outfielder Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) and junior catcher Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY) each provided a hit for SUNY New Paltz (4-12, 0-6). Sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) dropped to 4-5 with the loss. She allowed one run on five hits, while walking one and striking out eight over six innings of work. Fisher improved to 7-2 with the win, allowing four hits and striking out nine in seven innings.
Buffalo State (14-4, 4-0) scored three times in the first two innings of the second game to take an early 3-0 lead. SUNY New Paltz threatened with a run in the sixth, but the Bengals plated three more in the seventh for the 6-1 win. Sophomore shortstop Amalia Ditrapani (Staten Island, NY) collected the Hawks’ lone RBI on a double in the sixth inning, Blair also doubled for SUNY New Paltz. Sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) picked up the loss for the Hawks.
The SUNY New Paltz softball team will continue their weekend of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competition with a 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday, April 9 against Fredonia.
