Brockport Sweeps Softball, Hawks Lose Fifth Straight

BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team fell to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) after losing twice to Brockport in this afternoon’s doubleheader. The Hawks dropped the first game 6-0, before falling short 4-2 in the second game.

Down 3-0 in game two, SUNY New Paltz (4-10, 0-4) scored twice in the fifth to pull within one, 3-2. Freshman outfielder Gina Morano (Shirley, NY) and junior catcher Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY) accounted for the Hawks’ RBI. Junior outfielder Amy O’Brien (LaGrangeville, NY) collected two hits, as sophomore shortstop Amalia Ditrapani (Staten Island, NY) and Morano each totaled one. Sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) gave up four runs on ten hits, while walking one and striking out four over seven innings in the losing effort.

O’Brien, Morano and senior first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) combined for the Hawks’ three hits in the first game. The contest remained scoreless until the Golden Eagles grabbed a two-run edge on a homerun from senior outfielder Maggie Getter (Huntington, NY), in the fifth. Brockport (14-4, 4-0) added four more runs in the sixth to establish a six-run advantage before closing out SUNY New Paltz in the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) allowed six runs in six innings, striking out four in the loss. Junior pitcher Ann Traylor (Syracuse, NY) picked her ninth win of 2006 for Brockport allowing three hits and striking out four in seven innings of work.

The SUNY New Paltz softball team will host Purchase in a 3:00 pm doubleheader, tomorrow, Monday, April 3.
