Jackson Powers SUNY New Paltz Past Russell Sage
TROY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team captured their eighth win of the 2005-2006 season this evening, with a 48-27 win over Russell Sage. The Hawks advance to 8-11 overall, while Russell Sage drops to 3-18 on the year.
Junior forward Kristin Jackson (East Islip, NY) recorded a season high 13 points, on six-of-nine shooting from the field, with five rebounds to lead SUNY New Paltz. Junior guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) netted ten points and sophomore guard Sarah Salvo (Manorville, NY) totaled nine points with three steals and four rebounds.
SUNY New Paltz (8-11) managed to stop the offensive efforts of Russell Sage (3-18), who shot a mere 20 percent from the field in the loss. The Gators had only one player in double figures, freshman guard Kate Caddell (Amsterdam, NY) managed 10 points, three steals, and a block. Junior forward Ashley Wetherall (Dalton, MA) snatched nine rebounds for Russell Sage, six defensively.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team will return to conference action tomorrow, February 4, against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Cortland at 6:00 pm.
