SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Topples Fredonia
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team captured their third State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win this evening, with a 47-36 win over Fredonia.
Fredonia (11-6, 6-4) jumped out to an early 11-point lead, but the Hawks worked their way to an even score, 16-16, with 4:15 remaining in the opening half. A late, 6-0, Blue Devil run led to the 22-16 Fredonia edge at halftime. Sophomore forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville, NY) totaled seven points and six rebounds to led the Blue Devils at the break. Senior forward Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) and sophomore guard Amber Sohns (Delhi, NY) recorded six and five points, respectively, to lead SUNY New Paltz.
With 6:39 remaining in the second half, SUNY New Paltz (7-11, 3-8) tied the game, 22-22 when Sohns snatched an offensive board and converted the lay-up. With both teams battling to maintain the lead, the Hawks would surge to a 10-point run. Senior forward Kristin Jackson (East Islip, NY) converted on 3-of-5 from behind the arch, scoring twelve points; nine in the second half. Sohns finished the evening with 14 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Jenny Driscoll (Staten Island, NY) added eight second-half points for SUNY New Paltz.
Kindzia collected nine points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils, while Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford, NY) totaled 10 points five rebounds and two steals in the loss.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball will travel to Russell Sage on Friday, February 3, for a 6:00 pm contest.
