SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Edged By Oneonta
ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team lost this evening’s State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game to Oneonta, 64-52. The Hawks fall to 2-7 in the SUNYAC and 6-10 overall, while Oneonta advances to 12-4 in the SUNYAC and 6-2 overall.
SUNY New Paltz (6-10, 2-7) shot 25 percent from the field in the opening period and found themselves trailing 32-21, at the half. Oneonta (12-4, 6-2) dominated the court for the first thirty-five minutes of the game, and would regain their lead thanks to the stellar play of freshman forward Shannon Weir (Oneonta, NY). Weir scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards for the Red Dragons. Freshman guard Megan Bucci (Marlboro, NY) recorded ten points off four-of-six shooting from the field.
With 6:17 left in the game, junior guard Jenny Driscoll (Staten Island, NY) netted a three-pointer bringing the Hawks with four points for the first time in the game, 49-45. SUNY New Paltz sophomore guard Amber Sohns (Delhi, NY) led all Hawks with 12 points and nine rebounds. Junior point-guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) netted eight points, collected five rebounds, five assists, and three steals on the evening. Driscoll and freshman forward Jasmine Scheffel (Oakland, MD) scored ten points a piece in the loss.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team returns to action on Friday January 27, when the host conferences rival Brockport at 6:00 pm.
