SUNY New Paltz Evens Up Against John Jay
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team improved to 4-4 on the year with a 75-60 defeat of John Jay, this evening.
SUNY New Paltz (4-4) entered halftime with a three-point edge, 33-30. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) led the Hawks in the first half with six points and seven rebounds. Junior center Jerome Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) also finished the first half with six points along with three boards.
With 2:45 remaining in regulation the Hawks pushed their lead to ten points, 63-53. A pair of free throws from Richards gave SUNY New Paltz the double-digit edge. Junior guard Jason Parker (Brooklyn, NY) hit a pair of free throws to bring the Bloodhounds to within eight, but the Hawks went on a 12-3 run to close out the game.
Junior forward Victor Raspaldo (Bronx, NY) led John Jay (0-11) with 24 points. Sophomore guard Vince Calderon (Woodside, NY) and senior forward Aramis Ramos (Washingtonville, NY) both tallied 12 points in the loss.
Hauser finished the evening with his first double-double of the 2005-2006 season, with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hauser also led SUNY New Paltz in assists with four. The Hawks had two other players finish the affair in double figures. Richards totaled a season-high 18 points, shooting eight-of-ten from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) pitched in 12 points in the win.
The SUNY New Paltz Men’s basketball team will resume their schedule on Wednesday, January 4, when they host Baruch at 7:00 pm.
