Cruse Earns SUNYAC Co-Player of the Week
FREDONIA, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the Co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball. SUNY New Paltz senior center Alexzandria Cruse (Poughkeepsie, NY) has earned the honor for her play in the week ending December 11. Cruse shares the honor with Cortland sophomore forward Sara Cavanaugh (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY).
Cruse registered two double-doubles in both of last week’s games as SUNY New Paltz finished 1-1 on the week. She averaged 20.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game while shooting almost 70% from the filed (.692). Cruse led SUNY New Paltz with her third double-double of the year, scoring 24 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, in a close loss to The College of Staten Island, 69-66.
In the Hawks win over Polytechnic, Cruse, in limited time, provided the Hawks with her second double-double of the year. She scored 17 points, on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, and hauled down ten boards in only 14 minutes.
Cruse is averaging a team best 12.3 points a game and is currently the leader in rebounds with 88 averaging 12.6 rebounds a game. Her efforts do not go unwarranted as Cruse is also the leader in field goal percentage (.578) and field goals made (37) averaging 5.3 a game in only 138 minutes of play.
The Hawks will resume their play on January 5th when the will host Manhattanville College at 5:30 pm.
