SUNY New Paltz’s Women’s Soccer Rains on Rensselaer
KINGSTON, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team earned their seventh win of 2005 with a 2-1 defeat of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
With 31 seconds remaining in the game junior forward Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) found freshman midfielder Brianne Miller (Blue Point, NY), who booted the ball from the left side over the head of senior goalkeeper Jackie Gabriele (Clifton Park, NY).
Although RPI (2-8-1) held a 17 to seven shot advantage and a nine to six corner kick advantage, they were unable to capitalize. The Red Hawks showered freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) with nine shots in the opening half, but came up empty handed. Senior midfielder Amanda Picarelli (Miller Place, NY) had the Hawk’s only first half shot.
SUNY New Paltz (7-5-1) was first on the board at 67:53. Sophomore forward Jaime McBain (Troy, NY) scored her first goal of the season to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. RPI, however, evened the score only five minutes later off the foot of sophomore forward Andi Trinward (Waterville, ME).
The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team will host St. Joseph’s tomorrow, October 15, at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY at 11:00 am.
