SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Team 1-1 at Union Invitational
SCHENECTADY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team participated in the first day of the Union Invitational this evening. After two matches the Hawks overall record stands at 14-5.
In the 6:00 pm match, the Hawks lost for only the fifth time in 19 contests this season. Fredonia (19-5) swept the Hawks in three games. The Blue Devils took the first game 30-27, the second 30-26 and the third 30-23, for the 3-0 win. Sophomore middle hitter Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY) recoreded nine kills for the Hawks.
In the second game a late rally led by freshman libero Krista Fleming (Cold Spring, NY) kept the Hawks from a winless evening. Fleming provided 32 digs in defense for the Hawks, who battled from behind to defeat Skidmore 3-2. SUNY New Paltz lost the first two games 18-30 and 19-30, respectively, before taking the third 30-23, the fourth 30-28, and the fifth 15-13. Sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) tallied 41 assists helping senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) to a 13 kill match. Mazurowski also added 13 blocks.
Tomorrow, the SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will take on St. Lawrence University at 12:00 pm and Union College at 2:00 pm.
