SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Comes Up Empty in Cortland
CORTLAND, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to conference rival Cortland.
Cortland (8-3, 5-1) broke the affair open in the second half with three goals in the first 20 minutes. Freshman forward Katie Trivisonno (Apalachin, NY) got the Red Dragons offense rolling with an assist on the opening goal by sophomore forward Mandy Womelsdorf (Buffalo, NY) at 52:17. Trivisonno would score a goal of her own only 36 seconds later. Senior defender Katie Dunn (Lockport, NY) would connect with freshman midfielder Kayla Sweet (Fonda, NY) at 63:16 to push the Red Dragon lead to 3-0.
Out shot 21-9, SUNY New Paltz (6-4-1, 3-4) was able keep the opening half scoreless thanks to the efforts of freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY). Boccard was tested early and often, recording five saves in the first half. Boccard totaled eight saves in the loss.
Cortland senior goalkeeper Kate Killion (Amherst, NY) recorded two saves. One, at the 25th minute, kept senior midfielder Winnie Lento (Patchogue, NY) from giving the Hawks and early lead.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team will travel to play Oswego tomorrow Saturday, October 8, at 1:00 pm.
