SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Takes Loss at Alumni Field
NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon, the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team lost their fourth straight conference contest 2-0 to Cortland.
SUNY New Paltz (4-9, 1-6) held an 18-8 shot advantage and had several chances late in the second half, however, the Hawks were not able to execute. Senior goalkeeper Ross Morelli (Rochester, NY) recorded ten saves and his first shutout of the season.
Just under the 11-minute mark, Cortland (7-4, 2-3) was first on the board with a goal off the foot of junior midfielder Dan Dunn (Warwick, NY). Dunn deflected a cross-box lob from junior midfielder Ryan Tronovitch (Binghamton, NY) past Hawk junior goalkeeper Masanori Hotta (Hyogo, Japan) for the 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons would add an insurance goal before halftime. Sophomore forward Eric Reinhardt (Baldwinsville, NY) put the Red Dragons on top 2-0 off a pass form junior midfielder Cody Healy (Endicott, NY).
Junior defenseman Paolo Capparelli (Wappingers Falls, NY), junior midfielder Jason Irish (Newburgh, NY), senior forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) and senior midfielder Matt Soranno (Sound Beach, NY) led the Hawks with three shots apiece. Hotta finished the afternoon with three saves.
The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team will host Oswego tomorrow Saturday, October 8, at 3:00 pm.
