SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Losses 3-1 to Oswego
CORTLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer fell to conference rival Oswego 3-1, in a make-up game at Cortland.
Oswego (3-9-1, 2-3-1) took a 2-0 lead into halftime, despite the even play. The Lakers recorded their first goal at 10:58 off the foot of freshman defenseman Mike Roorda (Rochester, NY). After junior goalkeeper Masanari Hotta (Hyogo, Japan) turned down two Laker shots, Roorda was able to work himself free from Hawk defenders long enough to send a shot to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Midway through the first half SUNY New Paltz (4-10, 1-7) seized control of the momentum, but a foul in their defensive end gave Oswego the ball. The Lakers were able to capitalize off the free kick. Freshman midfielder Craig Navarre (Oakdale, CA) received the free kick and found senior forward Scott Brown (Fulton, NY) for the second Laker tally.
The Hawks continued to control much of the action in the second half, limiting the Lakers to only five shots. After a late Oswego insurance goal, pushing their lead to 3-0, the Hawks managed to get on the board off the foot of freshman defenseman Thomas Libardi (Canaan, NY). It was Libardi first goal of his collegiate career, but it was too little too late to help SUNY New Paltz.
Hotta finished the game with five saves for SUNY New Paltz. Sophomore goalkeeper Byron McMichael (Kinderhook, NY) recorded six saves for Oswego.
