Eight Hawks Earn All-Conference Recognition For Women’s Tennis

FREDONIA, NY — SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team had, a school record, eight members advance to championship play this past weekend at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament. The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team set a new conference and school record when those same eight were later named to SUNYAC All-Conference Teams.

Freshmen Dana Lim (New City, NY) and Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) earned first team all-conference honors. At number two singles, Lim, after a first round bye, defeated Fredonia sophomore Marie Holla (Wellsville, NY) 6-0, 6-0. She then won the her semifinals match 6-2, 6-4 over Geneseo junior Krissy Feikert (North Syracuse, NY) and triumphed 7-5, 6-2 over, number one seeded, junior Amanda Husson (Middletown, NY). The Hawks brought home a championship at number six singles for the second straight year thanks to the efforts of Gilligan. After her first round bye, Gilligan defeated Geneseo sophomore Maureen Peer (Spencerport, NY) 6-1, 6-2. In the semifinals Gilligan won 6-4, 6-4 over Cortland senior Jen Hemedinger (Binghamton, NY) and then she defeated Fredonia freshman Elise Daigler (North Tonawanda, NY) in the finals 6-0, 6-4. Both Lim and Gilligan posted 6-2 dual match records in singles play.

Sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY), freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY), senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY), junior Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY), freshman Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) and freshman Ashley Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) all received recognition on the all-conference second team. All finished second in their respective singles and doubles competitions.
