Women’s Volleyball Takes Two at Western Connecticut State
DANBURY, CT — The SUNY New Paltz womenýs volleyball team collected two wins today at Western Connecticut State University. The Hawks (4-3) the defeated Western Connecticut State University 3-1 and breezed by John Jay 3-0.
In the first match of the day, the Hawks began with a 30-18, 30-25, 28-30, and a 30-22, win over Western Connecticut State University. Senior middle hitter, Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) led the way with 16 kills and 7 blocks, while Senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) tallied 14 kills. With an outstanding defensive effort, senior Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY) and junior Kimberly Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) each recorded twenty-two digs. Sophomore Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) totaled 43 assists.
SUNY New Paltz then swept John Jay 3-0 (30-14, 30-18,30-11) behind 6 kills and 7 digs from Kaiser and 12 assists by junior setter Jennifer Hembury (Montgomery, NY). Freshman Amanda Brown (South Glens Falls, NY) had 5 kills for the Hawks.
The Hawks will return to action in the SUNY New Paltz Invitational, when they look to defend their 2004 Invitational sweep.
