SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Wins Fifth Straight
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz (5-0, 3-0) women’s tennis team picked up their third straight conference victory with a 7-2 win over conference rival Geneseo (3-1, 2-1). The Hawks have been perfect thus far and are currently on a five game winning streak.
At number one singles for the Hawks, sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) came away with a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Freshman, Dana Lim (New City, NY), defeated the Knights Junior Krissy Feikert (North Syracuse, NY) by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) took a tough loss against freshman Vivian Cheung (Douglaston, NY) 7-5, 6-7, 3-6. Senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) beat freshman Caitlin Sternberg (Schenectady, NY) 7-6 in the first set and won the second by default at number four singles for the Hawks. Junior Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) took number five singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 over sophomore Lauren Eichenauer (Rush Henrietta, NY). Freshman Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) won number six singles 6-2, 6-1.
At number one doubles Yamakawa and Lim set the pace with a 9-7 win. The Knights Chen and Eichenauer defeated the Hawks Fenton and Larson, at number two doubles 9-8. Sisters, Ashley and Lindsay Triffiletti (Mamaroneck, NY), combined to pick up their fifth win at number three doubles with a 8-1 triumph.
The SUNY New Paltz (5-0, 3-0) women’s tennis team will travel to face off against conference rival Cortland on Sunday, September 18.
