SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Tops R.P.I. 6-3

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team improved their record to 8-1 with a 6-3 defeat of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Hawks took four of six possible points in singles play. At number one singles, sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated junior Lydia Lindhult (Belchertown, MA) 6-4, 6-4. At number two singles freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) beat freshman Progga Das (Orangeburg, NY) 6-2, 6-4. RPI (4-2) grabbed victories in both number three and four singles. Sophomore Erica Sherman (Glen Oaks, NY) defeated freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) 6-0, 7-5 in the third flight and freshman Kristen Weiss (Old Chatham, NY) defeated senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) 6-1, 1-6, 10-6, in the fourth flight. Sophomore Jen Larson (Selden, NY), and freshmen Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) won number five and six singles 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 respectively.

SUNY New Paltz (8-1) dropped the number one doubles match for the second straight match. Yamakawa and Lim fell 8-3 to Sherman and Das. Fenton and Larson won 8-6 at number two doubles over Lindhult and freshman Andrea Dalton (South Hadley, MA). Freshmen sisters Lindsay and Ashley Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) defeated sophomores Charlotte Kaplan (Clifton Park, NY) and Shani Gil (Poughkeepsie, NY), 8-4 in number three doubles.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will travel to play Vassar College next Wednesday, October 5, at 4:00 pm.
