SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Drops Ramapo College
MAHWAH, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team defeated Ramapo College 8-1 yesterday at the Athletic Center of Ramapo College. The Hawks advance to 6-1 overall, while the roadrunners fall to 2-2 on the season.
SUNY New Paltz took control of the match starting with first singles when sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Freshman, Dana Lim (New City, NY), captured straight set victories over Jen Finaldi (West Milford, NJ) at number two, and freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) won the third decision over Hollis Grant (East Brunswick, NJ) 6-0 and 6-3. Senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) lost a heartbreaker to Lindsay Gerhard (Cape May, NJ) 7-5,4-6, and 2-6 at number four singles for the Hawks. Junior Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) took number five singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, while freshman Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) did the same at number six singles, 6-0 and 7-5.
At number one doubles Yamakawa and Lim captured an impressive 8-2 win. The Hawks Fenton and Larson won at number two doubles 8-5. Sisters, Ashley and Lindsay Triffiletti (Mamaroneck, NY), took their sixth win at number three doubles 8-6.
The SUNY New Paltz (5-1, 3-1) women’s tennis team will travel to William Smith to compete in the ITA Tournament on Friday, September 23.
