SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Team Lose to Lions 4-1
KINGSTON, NY — This afternoon, the SUNY New Paltz field hockey team dropped their fourth straight competition to The College of New Jersey.
SUNY New Paltz (0-4) jumped out to an early lead recording the first goal of the affair three minutes into game. Senior forward Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY) and junior midfielder Kelly Proper (Red Hook, NY) combined to find an open, senior forward, Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) who had no trouble finding the back of the cage to put the Hawks up 1-0.
The College of New Jersey (4-0) eventually got their offense rolling and tied the affair ten minutes later on a goal from sophomore midfielder Colleen Dougherty (Atco, NJ). Dougherty would score her second goal, and the game-winner, with eight minutes to play in the first half to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Junior forward Allison Greene (Atco, NJ) provided the Lions with all the offense they would need in the second half to secure the win. Greene scored twice, her first with 20 minutes remaining and the second 1:30 later to give The College of New Jersey a 4-0 victory. Junior defender Meg Hess (Morristown, NJ) would finish the afternoon with two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) registered eight saves for the Hawks in the loss.
