Brockport Defeats SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey at Dietz
KINGSTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team lost their conference opener to Brockport this afternoon 1-0, in double overtime, at Dietz Stadium.
After an hour-long rain delay the Hawks and Golden Eagles resumed play with the start of a second overtime period. With 13:58 remaining in the game, Brockport (3-4, 1-0) junior forward Andrea Vitello (Amherst, NY) scored the game-winner.
SUNY New Paltz (1-5, 0-1) and Brockport went toe-to-toe for the duration of the affair. The Hawks out shot the Golden Eagles 13 to 12 in the first-half, six to two in the second half, and two to one in the first overtime. Brockport?s only shot advantage came in the second overtime on Vitello?s goal.
Senior midfielder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) led the Hawks with five shots. Junior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) made 11 saves in the loss. Golden Eagle?s sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Zelich (Johnstown, NY) recorded 15 saves and the shutout.
The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team will continue their conference schedule on Wednesday, September 21, when they host Oneonta at 1:00 pm.
