Assistant Coaching Vacancies Filled as School Year Approaches

NEW PALTZ, NY — With the start of the school year seven weeks away, the SUNY New Paltz Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of several assistant coaches and support staff members.

Gina Ciccarelli has been named the assistant women’s tennis coach. Ciccarelli will return to New Paltz where she was a member of the Hawks 2002 SUNYAC Championship team. Ciccarelli went had a 10-3 record at number six singles and was a finalist at the conference championship. Ciccarelli earned a degree in business management from New Paltz in 2003 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education and school counseling at the College of Saint Rose.

Steve Diklich has been named the special assistant to the athletic director. A 2005 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in sport management, Diklich will serve as the event management coordinator, monitor transfer compliance and coordinate all concessions activities.

Bobbi Jo Gonnello has been named the assistant softball coach. Gonnello was a four-year member of the softball team and starting catcher for Marist from 2000-03. She currently serves as the director of softball instruction at Diamond Zone Sports in Kingston, NY and has been the director of softball operations at Frozen Ropes Training Center in Chester, NY.

Sarah Fosdick has been named the assistant coach of the field hockey team. Fosdick was a four-year member of the field hockey team at Muhlenberg and earned Second Team All-Centennial Conference honors as a senior in 2004.

Danielle Linder has been named the assistant women’s swimming coach. The former SUNY New Paltz swimmer was a two-time SUNYAC champion and a two-time all-conference selection during her four-year career. Linder graduated with a degree in history and a minor in communications in May.

Thomas McTamaney will join the baseball coaching staff as an assistant. McTamaney was the head baseball coach at Mount St. Mary from 1993-99 and has been the associate head baseball coach at Dutchess County Community College since 2001.

Former SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer player Lauren Pastore will serve as the team’s assistant coach this season. Pastore was an honorable mention All-SUNYAC selection as a senior in 2004. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in May with a degree in psychology.

Lee Rogers and Dmytro Mazur have been named assistant coaches for the men?s soccer team. Rogers enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at SUNY Cortland and Lees McRae. Rogers was a two-time all-region selection at Cortland before transferring to Lees McRae where he earned all-conference and all-region honors. For the last 20 years, Mazur has held a number of playing and coaching positions in the Ukraine.

Matt Stamerjohn has been named the assistant coach of the women’s basketball team. From 2000-04, Stamerjohn was the manager for the men’s basketball team at the University of Wisconsin under Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan. He has also coached AAU women’s basketball and freshman boy’s basketball in Wisconsin.

Ryan Stevens has been named the assistant athletic trainer. Stevens was the head athletic trainer at West Genesee High School and served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Syracuse University.
