SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Plays Strong at William Smith
GENEVA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team had one singles player and two doubles teams reach their respective finals at the William Smith tournament.
In C flight singles, second seeded sophomore Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) cruised into the finals, defeating Jenny Riskin of Union, 8-6. Then she defeated Cory Turner of William Smith, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals, only to lose 6-3, 6-0 to Meg Terrien of St. Lawrence University in the finals.
In A flight doubles senior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) and freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated Ashley Balling and Kayla Mizgala of Union 8-2. In the following round they defeated top seeded Laurie Dorschied and Amanda Husson of Cortland, 8-4. But fell 8-6 in the finals to second seeded Kristen Lannon and Anne Moulin of St. Lawrence University.
As the second seed in the B flight doubles, freshman Alex Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) and Larson defeated Jessica Meola and Sara Stiles of Union, 8-2. In the following round they beat Jessica Chapman and Leah Leavitt of Ithaca College, 9-7. In the finals, they fell to Crystal Cordes and Laura Maier of William Smith, 8-4.
