Hawks Sweep Potsdam
POTSDAM, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team scored twice in the seventh inning of game two to complete a sweep over conference rival Potsdam this afternoon.
Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, sophomore Amy O’ Brien (LaGrangeville, NY) delivered a two-out, two-run single to give the Hawks (12-10, 4-6) the victory.
SUNY New Paltz trailed 3-0 heading into the sixth before an RBI single by senior Jen Born (Walworth, NY) made it a one-run game.
Freshman Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) pitched the final inning to earn her second win of the doubleheader.
Senior Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) was 3-for-3 in the game two victory.
In game one, Reinke pitched seven innings of four-hit ball to help lead the Hawks to a 7-0 win. She struck out eight and walked just one batter.
Junior Liz McPartlan had a first-inning homer for SUNY New Paltz. The Hawks added three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead after four and a half.
Born and Schropfer each drove in two for SUNY New Paltz in the opener.
