Hawks Sweep Vassar, Extend Winning Streak To Eight
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team, ranked 10th in Division III, raised its winning streak to eight with a 3-0 sweep of 13th ranked Vassar this evening at Elting Gym.
The Hawks, who are now 10-5 this season, registered their sixth 3-0 win of the season. Behind a .414 hitting percentage, SUNY New Paltz won the opening game 30-21. The Hawks followed that up with a 30-25 win in game two and a 30-26 victory in game three.
Senior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) led a balanced attack with a match-high 14 kills, seven digs and a .370 hitting percentage. Junior Greg Jackson (N.Central Square, NY) added eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage. Sophomore Joshua Spiro (Island Park, NY) also turned in a strong effort and finished the match with seven kills, four blocks and a .400 hitting percentage.
Vassar (3-9) was led by junior Craig Lutterbein (Webster, NY) who finished with 12 kills, two digs and a .364 hitting percentage. Senior Steve Gilhool (Wynnewod, PA) finished the match with 11 kills and five digs.
