Douglas Named SUNYAC Player of the Week
NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz junior guard Maurice Douglas (Brooklyn, NY) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week this afternoon.
In his first two starting assignments of the season, Douglas averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot .608 (14-of-23) from the field in two games at the Monterey Bay Classic in Monterey, California. He scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in an 83-75 win over Ursinus on December 30. The next night, Douglas had 17 points and six rebounds in an 82-58 loss to Division II North Dakota.
Douglas, a transfer from Farmingdale State, has made an immediate impact and leads the team in scoring (14.1 ppg.) and rebounding (6.2 rpg.). He has scored in double figure figures in six of the Hawks’ nine games this season including a season-best 26-point effort in a loss to Buffalo State on December 4. Despite coming off the bench in the Hawks’ first seven game this season, he has led the team in scoring on four occasions.
The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team is 4-5 will host Manhattanville on Saturday (Jan. 8) at 4:00 p.m.
