New Paltz Comeback Falls Short at RPI
TROY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team recovered from a 2-0 first half deficit to tie game up; but a late second half goal lifted RPI to a 3-2 win over the Hawks this afternoon.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, freshman Lauren Martel (West Sayville, N) scored an unassisted goal to cut the Red Hawks lead in half.
Sophomore Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) pulled SUNY New Paltz even nine minutes into the second half when she scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
RPI, who held an 11-3 shot advantage in the second half, took the lead on a goal in the 74th minute by senior Adele Godfrey-Certner. Godfrey-Certner also assisted on a first half goal to give RPI its second win of the season.
Senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) stopped seven of RPI’s 10 shots on net.
SUNY New Paltz (6-9-3) will wrap up its regular season at SUNY Farmingdale on Saturday (Oct. 30).
