SUNY New Paltz Outdoor Track & Field Teams Compete at SUNYAC Championship

CORTLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the 2004 SUNYAC Championship. The men’s team placed seventh among nine teams with 22 points while the women came in ninth out of nine teams with 20 points.

In the men’s meet, junior Josh Moore (Woodburne, NY) captured the SUNYAC Championship in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 5 ¼ inches. He also placed third in the hammer throw with a throw of 150 feet, 11 inches and came in 11th in the discus with a hurl of 120 feet, eight inches.

The men’s team also received fine efforts from junior Adam Thyberg (Blue Point, NY), senior John Zarella (Mahopac, NY), and freshman Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY). Thyberg placed fourth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 13 feet, 11 ¾ inches, Zarella was fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:59.55 and Nelson crossed the finish line in eighth place in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:30.35.

The women’s team was led by sophomore Musu-Jackson Buckner (Buffalo, NY) who defended her SUNYAC Championship in the 200 meters with a time of 26.03. She also came in second in the 400 meters in 59.00.

Junior Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY) placed sixth in the javelin throw with a throw of 91 feet, six inches and senior Natasha Dudar (New Paltz, NY) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, five inches.
