Six SUNY New Paltz Swimmers Named to SUNYAC All-Conference Team

NEW PALTZ, NY — The accolades continued to reign in for the SUNY New Paltz swimming teams as four female swimmers and two male swimmers were named to the 2004 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Conference Team. The women’s team had two first team recipients and two second team honorees while the men’s team had one swimmer on each of the first and second teams.

Sophomore Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) and freshman Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) were named to the All-SUNYAC First Team. At the 2004 SUNYAC Championship, Masterson won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 54.41 and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team, which finished third with a National B Cut qualifying time of 1:51.80.

Delia captured the conference championship in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:14.88. She was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team.

The All-SUNYAC second team members were juniors Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) and Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY). Grempel finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a National B Cut qualifying time of 2:27.83. She also swam a school record time of 1:08.88 in the 100-yard breaststroke where she came in second.

Lindner came in third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.67 and swam to a fifth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.81. Grempel and Lindner were also a part of the Hawks’ 200-yard medley relay team.

On the men’s team, junior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) garnered first team honors and senior Jon Sousa (Albany, NY) was named to the second team.

Yeung defended his SUNYAC Championship in the 100-yard backstroke with a National B Cut qualifying time of 53.19. He won the championship in 2003 in a time of 53.61. He also swam to a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.14.

Sousa established two school records at the conference championship. He finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.37 and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.71.
