Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Hunter, Extends Winning Streak to Seven
NEW YORK, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team ran their winning streak to seven with a 30-23, 30-22, 30-27 victory over Hunter College this evening. The Hawks improved to 9-2 with the win and it is their longest winning streak since they won nine straight during the 2001 season. Hunter drops to 7-3 with the loss.
New Paltz was led by junior Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) who notched a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs while recording a hitting percentage of .520 (16 kills, 3 errors, 25 attempts). Junior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) had 11 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.
The Hawks also played great team defense throughout the match as senior Rob Dietrich (San Jose, CA) and sophomore Chris Grunwald (St. James, NY) each recorded four block assists.
New Paltz heads to Beverly, Massachusetts where they will be one of 12 teams competing in the Endicott Tournament which takes place on Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th at Endicott College.
