Hawks Prevail on Last Second Basket by Hauser
FREDONIA, NY — Freshman forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) scored off an offensive rebound with four seconds remaining to give SUNY New Paltz a 68-67 win over SUNYAC rival Fredonia this afternoon.
Hauser’s game-winning basket came off a missed shot by freshman guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY). It was the only time in the game that the Hawks had the lead. Fredonia opened the game by scoring the first 12 points and took a 38-24 lead at halftime. The Blue Devils held a 10-point lead, 55-45, with seven minutes remaining as well.
Senior guard Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY) led the Hawks with 17 points. Daudier’s basket with 20 seconds remaining pulled the Hawks within a point at 67-66. A turnover by Fredonia then set the stage for Hauser’s last second heroics.
Freshman forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) added 15 points for New Paltz who improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Hauser was also in double figures with 10 points.
