Stokes Scores Twice as New Paltz Field Hockey Defeats Misericordia, 4-3
KINGSTON, NY — Sophomore midfielder Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY) scored two second half goals to help give the SUNY New Paltz field hockey team a 4-3 win over College of Misericordia this afternoon at Dietz Stadium.
With the game tied at two late in the second half, Stokes found the net twice within a span of 1:19 to help the Hawks improve to 5-11 on the season. New Paltz earned its win over Misericordia in four tries and avenged a 5-0 loss to the Cougars a year ago.
Misericordia (11-6) pulled even midway through the second half when freshman forward Annette Troutman (Trevorton, PA) drove the length of the field and beat New Paltz sophomore goalie Erica Engstrom (Montauk, NY) for the game-tying goal.
Sophomore midfielder Kate Schoonmaker (High Falls, NY) had two assists for the Hawks who will finish their fourth varsity season at Dietz Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 1) against Elmira at 12:00 p.m.
