New Paltz Swimmers Compete at ECAC Championships
PITTSBURGH, PA — Qualifiers from the New Paltz men and women’s swimming and diving teams took part in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA. The men finished with 20 points in 22nd place out of 30 competing teams while the women wrapped up the competition with 16 points in 26th place.
The University of New Hampshire won the women’s championship with 389 points with Boston College (366) coming in second and Maryland-Baltimore County (358.50) finishing third.
Maryland-Baltimore County took the title on the men’s side with 564 points followed by Seton Hall (419.50) and Marist (393).
The quartet of Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Jon Sousa (Albany, NY), and Mark Costello (Staten Island, NY) had a strong showing on the weekend qualifying for the finals in the 400-yard medley relay, the 200-yard medley relay, and the 400-yard freestyle relay. They placed 11th in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.77 and 15th in both the 400 medley relay (3:36.41) and the 400 free relay (3:18.13).
On the women’s side, Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY), Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY), Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY), and Molly Soule (Clinton, NY) swam impressive relays, qualifying for the finals in the 200- yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard medley relay, and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The four Hawks’ top finish came in the 200 free relay as they came in 13th with a time of 1:41.34. They also finished 15th in both the 200 medley relay (1:53.59) and the 400 free relay (3:41.88).
