Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving Split With Cortland
CORTLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz swimming and diving teams split with the Red Dragons from Cortland this afternoon. The men were 118-96 winners and the women lost 125-103. The men’s team improves to 3-3 and the women slip to 2-4 on the season.
The men were first in seven of 13 events on the afternoon. Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) took top honors in the 200 individual medley (2:02.61) and the 100 yard backstroke (57.09) to lead the Hawks. Chris Farrell (Sparkill, NY) placed first in the 1000 freestyle (11:02.55), Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) was first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.36), Jon Sousa (Albany, NY) took the top mark in the 100 butterfly (54.71) and Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY) won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.35). Yeung, Sousa, Amoia and Mark Costello (Staten Island, NY) also won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.91.
Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY) and Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) each won individual events for the Hawks on the women’s side. Lindner placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:16.98)and the 100 backstroke (1:02.56) while Grempel took the 100 breaststroke (1:12.37). Lindner, Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY), Molly Soule (Clinton, NY), and Jaime Parrotte (Johnson City, NY) also took first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.40.
Both teams will now prepare for the SUNYAC Championships which will take place Feb. 12-15 in Buffalo, NY.
