St. Lawrence Defeats New Paltz 3-1 in Hawks Season Finale
CANTON, NY – — St. Lawrence scored three second half goals to defeat SUNY New Paltz 3-1 this afternoon in the season finale for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz took a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the game when Matt Daum found Mario Lavacca on a two-on-one breakaway giving New Paltz the early advantage.
The Hawks outshot the Saints 7-6 in the first half and goalie Kevin Smith made four saves allowing New Paltz to carry the lead into the intermission.
St. Lawrence (11-3) took control in the second half, outshooting New Paltz 16-1. The Saints however didn’t get the equalizer until the 62nd minute when Evan Schutt scored on a penalty kick.
Despite eight second half saves by Smith, St. Lawrence began to wear down the Hawks defense and the senior goalkeeper, taking the lead for good five minutes later on a goal by Ryan O’Dowd.
St. Lawrence sealed the victory in the 88th minute on a goal by Elliot Savitz.
Smith made 12 saves for the Hawks who finished their season with a 5-13-1 record.
