Lawson and Montiero Lead RIT Past New Paltz
NEW PALTZ – — Freshman midfielder Michael Lawson (Wall, NJ) and freshman forward Nuno Montiero (Portugal) each had a goal and an assist to lead RIT to a 4-0 win over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY.
After a scoreless first half, RIT controlled the final 45 minutes of the game to improve to 7-4-2. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute when Lawson’s blast from 15-yards out found the top left corner of the goal.
The Tigers raised the score to 2-0 at 63:30 when Montiero beat his man on the left side of the field and slipped a pass through the box to junior forward Trae Lower (Gettysburg, PA) who tapped it home for RIT’s second goal in 12 and a half minutes.
Lawson then set up Montiero in the 73rd minute for another goal to raise the RIT lead to 3-0. Junior forward Brad Roy (Raymond, NH) added a goal in the final four minutes of the game.
Senior goalie Brian Lenzo (Greece, NY) made four saves for the Tigers. SUNY New Paltz seninor goalie Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) had five stops.
