Union Stops Hawk Softball

SCHENECTADY, NY — The Union Dutchwomen defeated New Paltz women’s softball twice on Wednesday 10-0 and 5-2. The losses give the Hawks a season record of 1-19.

In game one, Union pitcher Sarah Johnston gave up one hit and the Dutchwomen used four-run 3rd and 4th innings to pull away in a 10-0 win. New Paltz junior Kristin Ackerman (Middletown, NY) pitched all four innings for the Hawks, giving up ten runs on eight hits while striking out one batter. Tiffany Danko (Goshen, NY) had the only hit of the game for the Hawks.

In game two, the New Paltz bats remained relatively quiet as the Hawks only managed five the entire game. Katie Monahan (Port Jefferson Station, NY) had two hits to pace her team including a 2-RBI double in the 6th. Wendy Del Orbe (Bronx, NY) took the loss pitching 4 and 1/3, giving up five runs on two hits and walking eight batters.

Women’s softball will next play Friday at Fredonia at 3:00pm.
