St. Joe’s Knocks Off Men’s Baseball
PATCHOGUE, NY — The New Paltz men’s baseball team fell behind early to the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles and never recovered falling 13- 3. The loss drops the Hawks’ season record to 10-20-1.
St. Joe’s got four quick runs in the bottom of the first before Gus Ortega (Rosendale, NY) sent a second inning two- run blast over the leftfield fence to bring the Hawks back to a two-run deficit. The Golden Eagles put the game out of reach with five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh for a commanding 13-2 lead. New Paltz got one last run in the top of the ninth on Jeff Lackaye’s (Woodstock, NY) RBI-single. Don Hallenbeck (Fallsburg, NY) took the loss on the mound going six innings giving up eleven runs on fourteen hits.
New Paltz returns to the field Saturday at Oneonta for their SUNYAC finale. The Hawks need at least one victory in the doubleheader to stay alive in their quest for a SUNYAC playoff berth.
