On par for scholarships
NEW PALTZ — Student scholarships are the “hole in one” goal at the fourth annual SUNY New Paltz Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be held at Nevele Grande Resort in Ellenville on May 31.
The growing popularity of the tournament makes the day’s time on the fairway and at the tournament awards banquet a truly festive event, as well as providing more scholarship funds for deserving students. For example, the tournament’s field of 88 golfers in 2001 raised more than $20,000 for scholarships, a 60 percent increase from 2000.
Play begins with an 8 a.m. check-in and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. There will be a BBQ lunch at the turn. After the tournament play, all players are invited to a reception and awards banquet at the Terrace Restaurant on the SUNY New Paltz campus.
Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, hole in one, and men’s and women’s longest drive.
The cost for an individual player is $150, and there are several sponsorship opportunities available. For more information, contact Bill Long at 257-3370, K.C. Stevens at 257-3271, or Ray Schwarz at 257-3261.
