Men’s Volleyball Falls to Juniata, St. Francis
HUNTINGDON, LORETTO, PA — The men’s volleyball team faced stiff competition Sunday as they took on Juniata, the #3 ranked team in Division III, and Division I St. Francis.
Against the Eagles of Juniata, the Hawks were beaten in three straight games 30-22, 30-26, and 30-26. Jim Cramer (New Oxford, PA) had 8 kills and 9 assists for New Paltz and Jason Karpf (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) had 17 assists.
In the second match of the day, the Hawks gave the Division I Red Flash all they could handle. St. Francis took game one 30-23 before the Hawks stole one back 32-30. In the third game, the Red Flash outlasted New Paltz 30-28 and pulled away in game four 30-19 for the win. Michael La Rocco (Hauppauge, NY) and Sean Riley (Port Jefferson, NY) both collected double doubles for New Paltz. La Rocco had 14 kills and 10 digs while Riley had 10 kills and 11 blocks. Karpf and Cramer together totaled 33 of New Paltz’s 34 assists in the match.
The Hawks return to battle Tuesday when they look for revenge against the New Haven Chargers. New Haven defeated New Paltz 3-1 on February 20th.
