Men and Women’s Basketball Drop Final Games

BROCKPORT/FREDONIA — New Paltz basketball has seen some exciting, down to the wire games this season. Friday and Saturday’s games failed to qualify as such. The men’s team was beaten by 56 points by Brockport and 25 by Fredonia while the women lost by 41 to the Golden Eagles and 35 to the Blue Devils.

On Friday, the men didn’t help their cause in the game, turning the ball over 30 times to Brockport. The Golden Eagles showed why they are the 9th ranked team in the country shooting 63% in the first half and 68% in the second in the runaway victory. The final score was 106-50. Pat Stirk (Milford, CT) managed 20 points in the loss. On Saturday against Fredonia, the Hawks were led by Pat Stirk and Tim Mahon (Poughkeepsie, NY). The two seniors, playing in their final collegiate game, were the two top scorers in an 83-52 loss. Stirk had 19 and Mahon added 13. New Paltz closes out its season with a 3-22 overall record and a 2-14 SUNYAC record.

On the women’s side, Friday was the similar to the men’s game as the Lady Hawks turned the ball over 32 times to the Golden Eagles. Currently Brockport sits at the top of the SUNYAC conference with just one loss and three overall. Silver Williams (Newburgh, NY) managed to score 18 points in the 86-45 loss. Saturday saw New Paltz’s season come to a close with an 82-48 loss. Williams was the leading scorer once again with 19 points. The losses made the Lady Hawks’ overall record 4-21 and their conference record 2-14.
