Men and Women’s Track and Field Open Season

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The New Paltz men and women’s track and field teams began their 2001-02 seasons this weekend at the Williams College meet. The men’s team finished 4th out of six competing teams while the women’s team placed third out of six.

The men’s team finished with 17 points behind Williams, Westfield, and Keene State. Junior Matt Selkirk (Canandaigua, NY) placed first in the men’s pole vault clearing 14′ 6” and sophomore Adam Thyberg (Blue Point, NY) was second clearing 13′ 6”. The Hawks were also first in the 4x 400 relay. The team of Selkirk, Thyberg, Dave Matthews (Walkill, NY) and Josh Barreto (Catskill, NY) finished with a time of 3:35.57.

On the women’s side, the Hawks finished with 26 points behind Williams and Keene. Freshman Sara Joki (Schylerville, NY) placed first in the high jump clearing 5 feet. In the long jump, sophomore Natasha Dudar (New Paltz, NY) placed 2nd with a jump of 15′ 11” and freshman Stephanie Ramsey (Shelton, CT) was 3rd with a jump of 15′ 6 ½”.
