Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving Finish 6th, 9th at ECACs
SEWELL, NJ — The men and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in the ECAC Championships this weekend at Rowan University in New Jersey. The women’s team was 9th out of 19 teams competing while the men’s team finished in 6th place out of fifteen teams with a total of 302 points behind Rowan (728), Hartwick (396), NYU (361), Albright (317.5), and Catholic (310).
Junior Molly Soule (Clinton, NY) highlighted the weekend for the women finishing well in the 100-yd. freestyle and 50-yd. freestyle. Soule finished 14th out of over eighty- five competitors in the 100 free with a time of 57.05. Soule also finished 13th with a time of 26.22 in the 50 free with senior Erin Lalor (Richmond Hill, NY) coming in 14th at 26.25.
For the men, New Paltz took 3rd place in the 200-yd. medley relay. Senior Mark Otto (Sewell, NJ), juniors Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY) and Jeff Galaise (Torrington, CT), and sophomore Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) came in at 1:40.62, just fifteen hundredths of a second off the winning time. The Hawks fared well in individual events as well. Amoia placed 2nd in the 100-yd. breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06 and 4th in the 200-yd. breaststroke at 2:19.54 and Yeung and Galaise finished in the top ten of the 200 individual medley. Yeung was 2nd at 2:00.55 and Galaise was 9th at 2:05.58.
Swimming and diving next travels to Florida on a training trip for a week beginning January 2nd.
