Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving Sweep Montclair State
NEW PALTZ — New Paltz swimming and diving scored two victories this weekend as the men recorded a 112-77 win and the women came out on top 117-81.
The men placed first in seven of the opening eight events before swimming the last three events as exhibition. The team of Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Jeff Galaise (Torrington, CT), and Mark Otto (Sewell, NJ) placed first in the 400-yd. medley relay with a time of 3:48.08. Yeung, Amoia, and Galaise continued their winning ways taking four individual events. Yeung was first in the 200-yd. individual medley and the 100-yd. freestyle, Amoia took the 50-yd freestyle, and Galaise took the 200-yd. backstroke. Freshman Chris Farrell (Sparkill, NY) and Sophomore Mark Costello (Staten Island, NY) also won individual events with Farrell winning the 200- yd. freestyle and Costello placing first in the 1000-yd. freestyle.
On the women’s side, the Hawks placed first in six of the first ten events, swimming the last as exhibition. Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY), Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY), Erin Lalor (Richmond Hill, NY), and Jessica Armstrong (Wappingers Falls, NY) took the 400-yd. medley relay with a time of 4:20.17. In addition, Lalor, Grempel, and Lindner also placed first in individual events. Lalor won the 100- yd. freestyle, Grempel was first in the 200-yd. breaststroke, and Lindner took the 200-yd. backstroke. Senior Christine Foster (East Patchogue, NY) placed first in two events for the Hawks winning the 1000-yd. freestyle and the 200-yd. individual medley.
