Women’s Tennis wins weekend
NEW PALTZ — The women’s tennis team performed brilliantly this weekend sweeping matches against Geneseo, Brockport and Plattsburgh.
On Friday against Geneseo, New Paltz started well in doubles with Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) and Barbara Slovak (Harriman, NY) winning 8-2 and Megan Crevoiserat (Levittown, NY) and Jenny Lipp (Islip, NY) winning 8-5. In singles play, Farrell, Slovak, Rebecca Billow (Florida, NY), and Amie Larson (Port Jervis, NY) all won their matches. It marked the first time ever New Paltz has defeated Geneseo.
The women’s tennis team defeated Brockport on Saturday by a score of 5-4. Kerry Ferrell (Rockville Centre, NY), Megan Crevoiserat (Levittown, NY), and Ami Larson (Port Jervis, NY) all won their matches in singles play. In doubles, Ferrell and Barbara Slovak (Harriman, NY) won 8-2 in their doubles match and Rachel Murray (East Chatham, NY) and Jessica Smith (Oneida, NY) won 8-4.
On Sunday against Plattsburgh, Farrell and Slovak and Rachael Murray (East Chatham, NY) and Jessica Smith (Oneida, NY) were victorious in doubles. In singles, after New Paltz dropped their first three matches, Crevoiserat came back from a set down to win her match in dramatic fashion and Larson survived her match 7-6, 7-6 tying the score at 4-4 with one match remaining. Kerry Farrell outlasted Debra Laporte in a third set tiebreaker 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 to seal the victory. It marked the third win in as many days against teams New Paltz had previously never defeated.
