Field Hockey Wins First
NEW PALTZ — The New Paltz Field Hockey team won their first game of the season Tuesday defeating Oneonta on the Red Dragons’ home field. With less than five minutes to go in the first half sophomore Allison Taub (Greenlawn, NY) made it 1-0 with her sister Lisa Taub (Greenlawn, NY) picking up the assist. With less than one minute to go in the first stanza, Allison struck again giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the half. Heather Downey (Scotia, NY) picked up the assist on the play. Oneonta cut the lead to one with 22:21 left in the second half on a goal by senior Jen Mollen but could not get the equalizer. New Paltz finished the match with a slight edge in shots 8-6 and Goalkeeper Elizabeth Clarke (Stone Ridge, NY) made 5 saves in the victory. New Paltz improves their overall record to 1-4 and their SUNYAC record to 1-2. The women return to action Saturday when they host Cortland at 1:00 at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
