NCAA Mascot To Appear At Elting Gym

NEW PALTZ — J.J. Jumper, the official mascot of NCAA Basketball, is coming to SUNY New Paltz’s Elting Gymnasium this Friday night.

Jumper will perform during the Hawks’ basketball games that night against Potsdam. The women’s game starts at 6 p.m. and the men’s contest will follow at 8 p.m.

In addition to signing autographs and posing for photos, Jumper will distribute various premium collectable items and participate in a foul shooting contest against New Paltz’s own Hawk mascot at halftime of both games.

Jumper is first mascot in the NCAA’s storied 96-year history. It was established in 1999 to create additional entertainment opportunities at basketball games and serve as a promoter of college basketball in all three divisions.

Jumper encourages healthy physical, educational and emotional values in children and fosters an interest in sports, particularly the sport of basketball. Admission is just $3 for adults and $1 for children under 12, and includes both games. University students, faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid ID card.
