Men’s Volleyball Team Goes 1-1

BUFFALO — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team split its two matches on the final day of the D’Youville College Invitational on Sunday in Buffalo.

The (1-2) Hawks lost to the University of Findlay in four games (30-27, 30-18, 26-30, 30-28) before rebounding to defeat Johnson and Wales in three straight (30-15, 30-23, 30-23).

Division I transfer (Rutgers-Newark) Beau Warren contributed in his Hawk debut. He had 12 assists, nine kills and six blocks against Findlay, and collected 14 more assists against Johnson and Wales. Teammate Sean Riley had 19 kills in the New Paltz loss, and led a balanced offense in the nightcap, with eight kills, five blocks and four digs.

Other contributors against Johnson and Wales were Robert Manosca (26 assists) and Otto Tannure (10 kills, five digs). Against Findlay, Christopher Wright had 12 kills and five blocks.

New Paltz returns to the Mid-Hudson region to face local rival Vassar at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Poughkeepsie, before finally hosting New Haven for its home opener 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
