Hawks Make Strong Showing
CANTON — Phil Goodwin ran the fastest men’s time in the SUNYAC this year, to lead SUNY New Paltz to a third place cross-country finish behind the host Saints and St. Thomas (Minn.) – both ranked in the top 15 nationally – on Saturday at St. Lawrence University.
Rebecca Demeri (21:05) finished 23rd to lead the Hawk women to a fifth place finish.
Goodwin, a sophomore, completed the 8k course in just 26:15, for 11th place. He is peaking at the right time, with the SUNYAC Cross-Country Championships looming next Saturday at Oswego. Goodwin, who placed eighth last year to become the first New Paltz runner to earn All-SUNYAC recognition, is the conference’s top returning men’s finisher.
