SUNY New Paltz Plans Homecoming Weekend
NEW PALTZ — “Where the Memories Last a Lifetime” is the theme of Homecoming 1999 at SUNY New Paltz on October 15 through 17. This year’s Homecoming will incorporate the 110th alumni reunion and include activities for alumni, students, parents and families.
One of many highlights of the weekend will be the performance of comedian and actor John Witherspoon, who starred in Vampire in Brooklyn, directed by Wes Craven, and also appears in the WB Network’s The Wayans Brothers. Witherspoon will perform on Saturday, October 16, at 8 p.m. in Julien J. Studley Theatre. Tickets are available at the McKenna Theatre Box Office and at the door. General Admission is $7.00. Students, faculty, and staff tickets are $5.00.
Among the many planned activities for Saturday will be the Hawk Hall of Fame Brunch and Induction Ceremony, from 10 a.m. to noon in the College Terrace Restaurant; historical and architectural tours led by Professors William Rhoads, of art history, and Laurence Hauptman, of history, on the half hour between 10 and 1 p.m.; a 12:30 barbeque on the Old Main Quad; performances by local bands, from 1 – 5 p.m. on the Old Main Quad; a swim meet, and various receptions and dinners.
On Sunday, President Bowen will host a brunch, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Student Union Building; there will be a First World Alumni Brunch in the College Terrace restaurant, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and a women’s soccer alumni match at 11 a.m., followed by a men’s soccer alumni match, at noon (on the soccer field).
