SUNY New Paltz to Offer Continuing Ed Courses for CPAs

NEW PALTZ — Ten new courses for licensed certified public accountants (CPA) will be offered during July, August and September at the State University of New York at New Paltz. The courses fulfill mandatory continuing education requirements established by New York’s State Education Department.

“We will also make the continuing professional education (CPE) courses available to CPAs outside of New York and to business people who have an interest in any of the various subject areas,” said Hadi Salavitabar, director of business programs at SUNY New Paltz.

Course offerings will include: Recent Changes in Tax Laws; Tax Practice Roundtable; Beginning and Advanced Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows; Beginning and Advanced Microsoft Word 97 for Windows; The Accountant’s Use of the Internet; Accounting and Auditing Updates; and, Not-for-Profit Accounting and Auditing Update.

CPE credit for these courses varies from 3 hours to 8 hours per course, and registration fees are from $70 to $150 per course.

“We are pleased to be able to offer these courses,” stated Salavitabar. “As the only comprehensive university campus between Westchester County and Albany, SUNY New Paltz is able to serve the needs of the financial professional in the Hudson Valley and at a very reasonable cost.” He noted that many courses will be taught in one of the university’s state-of-the-art PC computer labs.
