Hawks Ranked Among NCAA Statistical Leaders
NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s basketball teams have two players listed each in the first bi-weekly release of the NCAA Division III Statistical Leaders.
Sophomore center Demetrios Tsimis, of Rome, NY (Vernon-Verona-Sherill ’97), is the highest ranked Hawk, fourth nationally in blocks (3.1 per game). Jasmine Sanchez, a senior forward from New York City (Mount St. Ursula ’95), meanwhile is seventh in the nation in rebounding (12.5 per game).
Also listed are two New Paltz guards, Robin Shields, a junior from Staten Island (New Dorp ’96), and Keith Kenney, a senior from Middletown (Pine Bush ’95).
Shields is currently 23rd nationally in three-pointers made per game (2.5), while Kenney ranks 29th in scoring average (20.8 points per game).
The New Paltz women, which beat winless Potsdam last night, 68-64 in overtime, to improve to 2- 7 (2-4 SUNYAC), puts its two-game win streak on the line today at (5-3, 3-3 SUNYAC) Plattsburgh. The men, which lost for the first time in three games last night, 76-64, at Potsdam, are 5-3 (3-3 SUNYAC) entering today’s contest at (3-3, 3-3 SUNYAC) Plattsburgh.
